I thought of making this small tutorial about how to delete a locked folder from a drive as one of my friends recently had problems with it.

He was able to delete the files using Unlocker and FileAssassin but the could not delete the folder.

Generally while upgrading when the PC restarts and you get this big folder "daaf221c64ce5b126f0c67asggws5" or something similarly named and when you try to delete it you get an error message which will say something like this
“you require permission from (my user name/Owner) to make changes to this folder” and you cannot delete the folder.
Fear not there is a simple solution for this.

1. Download the registry File : Registry File

2. Unzip and click open or Merge,You Will have a new context menu which should say Take Ownership

3.Right click on the locked folder and click on Take Ownership and now you will be able to delete the folder.

4.You can remove the registry by clicking on Remove Reg included in the zip file.

This will also be helpful in case a folder is hijacked by a Virus or a Malware and you cannot delete it.

P

Plexx

There are also tools to enable Take Ownership without adding a registry key.

Thanks for the share. Something I have required to use but for another purpose: to replace DLLs of Windows 7 Themes :)

As for Unlocker vs FileASSASSIN, Unlocker is more reliable and only on 2 instances I had to use FileASSASSIN.

On a side note: perhaps you can link this instead of the mediafire link. Source: Windows Seven Forums.
