Today, HP announced that it's buying HyperX, which is a division of Kingston Technology. HP and HyperX have been partners for years, as we've often noted in our OMEN gaming PC reviews. In those devices, the company supplied things like RAM, which came with RGB lighting.

"HyperX is a leader in peripherals whose technology is trusted by gamers around the world and we’re thrilled to welcome their outstanding team to the HP family," said Enrique Lores, President and CEO, HP Inc. "We continue to advance our leadership in Personal Systems by modernizing compute experiences and expanding into valuable adjacencies. We see significant opportunities in the large and growing peripherals market, and the addition of HyperX to our portfolio will drive new sources of innovation and growth for our business."

One thing should be noted very clearly, as to avoid misunderstandings. And that is that HP bought the division, but not the production of certain products. Products being as far as to my knowledge goes at this moment of writing: Kingston DRAM, flash memory (USB sticks) and SSD's.

Those products were made by Kingston themselves, but rebranded for the market under the HyperX Gaming on the sticker only(!). They were handled by Kingston or a subsidiary (cant remember) and then labeled on the sticker with HyperX. Since they owned HyperX at the time, they didnt have to pay any brand licensing fee. Those products will remain under Kingston, but it's yet unclear if they go under Kingston Branding, or they license the brand name HyperX etc... It's not known as of yet.

HP wants to expand its reach into the computer business with products, read: accessories and peripherals, such as for the gamer branded keyboards, mice, microphones, headphones etc... And they plan to use the HyperX brand for that as well as the production infrastructure.

And Kingston from it's origin made memory and storage applications (their specialty). I am positive nothing will change on that part.

Edit: It's also possible, that they bought the HyperX division to add them to the HP OMEN brand. Which is a brand by HP to reach the "fancy" market audience and place HyperX infrastructure under it. Though that is pure speculation at this point.
