this config will give you fluid gaming at 1080p with medium settings in most recent titles. I know you've said you are not a gamer but just sayin what you can have with that money. On other way you can be really knocked out with the performance of i5 from Haswell series at the expense of non having a dedicated GPU but Intel's integrated graphic units.

From AMD I just can't recommend an APU, as the most expensive one (and the best one) is A10-7870K at the price point of 140$ can be easily beaten with Athlon x4 860K + R7 250/260 for 150$, so it's price/performance ratio is not that great. Always look to get the best performance for the money. It may not be that important now, but it can be for 2 years from now ;)

Best AMD alternative is just to replace the i3 with FX 6300 with a proper mobo for it (Gigabyte Ultra Durable series is totally fine), with all other parts intact.

I edited the parts list
Intel Core i3-4160, Corsair 100R - System Build - PCPartPicker
This should be fine for what my family does online.
I may buy the i5 for my build, but will build a pc for the family first.
Thanks. I appreciate all the help

I have a quick question, the board only has 2 case fan headers so what is the best/safest way to connect additional fans if I ever have to?
