Important changes to Chrome Web Store

Starting in November 2016, any new packaged apps or hosted apps that you publish will be restricted to Chrome OS, and will not be available to users on Windows, Mac or Linux. Existing apps will continue to be available on all major platforms.

Starting in late 2016, newly-published Chrome apps will only be available to users on Chrome OS. Existing Chrome apps will remain accessible on all platforms, and developers can continue to update them.

In the second half of 2017, the Chrome Web Store will no longer show Chrome apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux, but will continue to surface extensions and themes. In early 2018, users on these platforms will no longer be able to load Chrome apps.

On Windows, Mac, and Linux, we encourage developers to migrate their Chrome apps to the web.​

I really wonder what is their strategic reason behind this decision...
"We're Google, and we can do what we want. Wait 'til November and we'll prove it." :p
At least, that's what I get from Google when they announce things like this that aren't smart moves at all.

They are trying to create their own ecosystem like Microsoft started with Windows 10 but Chrome OS isn't that app-popular. Except if Google buys Remix OS or decides to take serious actions of developing the Chome OS and bringing it to mass production with hardware partners.
Microsoft and Intel are the best buddies right now, and it's really hard to beat that team.
