n a somewhat alarming statement to Apple fans, Walter Isaacson, author of the best-selling biography ‘Steve Jobs’, said
Google takes clear lead when it comes to innovation in the tech industry.
Of course, it is difficult to forget the first real home computer from Apple, its infamous Macintosh, its iMac and also its highly disruptive, history-making iPhone. But Apple’s brand, once synonymous with vision, now seems to have lost its touch because of lack of innovation and this might hint towards the beginning of its demise.
Isaacson recently
told CNBC that Google buying Nest Labs is a bigger deal than Apple securing the China Mobile agreement for selling iPhones.
As he puts it, “Google buying Nest shows an amazingly strong, integrated strategy that Google has to connect all of our devices, all of our lives … the Internet of things is actually real, there are these devices we’re gonna want to have and Google’s going to get ahead of that game [...]”
Google’s portfolio of gee-whiz tool shed of giant robots, self-driving cars and Google Glass will now be enriched with the Nest portfolio of smart thermostats and fire detectors.
Isaacson also went to add that Nest co-founder and CEO Tony Fadell will now come on-board Google as part of this deal. “The greatest innovation today is coming from Google. Fadell was one of the team that created the iPod. He was very deep into the Apple culture … when Apple was so innovative … Now Tony Fadell is going to Google because he’s part of the Nest deal …”
