Apple will be introducing several changes in iOS 17. The company is reportedly redesigning some important apps for iPhone such as Health, Wallet and Wallpapers.

Twitter user Analyst941 created some concept renders of the new designs. The leaker says that the renders are exact replicas of what they saw personally. However, as 9to5Mac points out that the leaker previously predicted some elements of the Dynamic Island accurately, so take that as you will.

Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 during its WWDC 2023 keynote on June 5, which is just over a month away. Ahead of time, rumors suggest the update will include at least eight new features and changes for iPhones, as outlined below.

The first iOS 17 beta should be made available to members of Apple's Developer Program moments after the keynote, while a public beta will likely be available in July for members of Apple's Beta Software Program. As usual, the update should be widely released in September, around the time that new iPhones launch.

Some of the features and changes listed below might not be added until later iOS 17 versions, such as iOS 17.1 or iOS 17.2.

Apple is working on a new Live Activities feature for the Maps app that will display turn-by-turn navigation directly on the lock screen, according to Apple leaker @analyst941. They claim that it will be a part of iOS 17 and shared a render that gives an idea of how the unreleased feature would look in action. It shows the map in a square window along with some direction prompts at the top.

Apple says that the "new software features for cognitive, speech, and vision accessibility are coming later this year," which strongly suggests that they will be part of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14. The new operating systems are expected to be previewed at WWDC in early June before launching in the fall.

Just watched a YouTube'r suggest Apple will revamp Siri with heavy AI underpinning for just this purpose.

He also suggests, all the recent over-powered hardware releases are a precursor to further AI integration with existing premium Apple apps to supercharge their capabilities, both individually and in collaboration with each other.

Exciting times...

Well hopefully, in its current state Siri on a £300 HomePod 2 is far from great, more like disgrace. Apple needs urgently to look into that.

As part of iOS 17, Apple at WWDC 2023 announced a new AirDrop-related feature called NameDrop, a potentially more convenient way of sharing things with another iPhone owner that's in the same physical location as you.

iOS 17 introduces a much-requested AirTag feature, the option to share an AirTag with another person. Since launch, AirTags have only been able to be owned and used by a single person, but that's changing in the ‌iOS 17‌ update.

Apple is enhancing the security of Safari in iOS 17, and private browsing now requires Face ID authentication or a passcode to access. If you open up a private browsing window in Safari, you will need to authenticate with ‌Face ID‌.

If your Messages app often becomes cluttered with one-time verification codes that you need to manually delete, it's going to get a lot easier to clean them up in iOS 17.

With the iOS 17 Photos app, Apple is making it easier to crop your photos to your specifications. When you zoom into an image, there's a new "Crop" button that appears in the upper right.

The iOS 17 Health app introduces a new feature that allows you to keep track of your emotions and moods over time, so you can get an idea of your overall mental wellbeing.

Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, has hinted that iOS 17 may support sideloading in the EU. It seems the company is working with the EU to discuss compliance.

Just to be clear, the current version of iOS 17 Beta does not support sideloading. This was one of the most anticipated feature among users, bloggers, etc. However, we were left scratching our heads as it went announced at the Keynote at WWDC 2023. Is it going to happen or not?

John Gruber hosted his annual "The Talk Show Live" at WWDC 2023, where he discussed various things including macOS 14 Sonoma, iOS 17, and the shiny new hardware that Apple introduced in the Keynote. Towards the end of the show, Gruber raised a question to Federighi about why the iOS 17 Keynote or any documentation from Apple did not mention sideloading, while also mentioning that the feature to allow apps from third-party sources on Android, and iOS has been mandated by the European Union. Federighi made a humorous comment about "Android! Wrong room!", but almost immediately took a more serious tone to address the query that was posed to him.

Federighi commented that Apple is focused on doing whatever the right thing is for customers, and the safety of users. He also mentioned that the company is working with the EU to discuss compliance with the new law.

iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 include a new Screen Distance feature that can alert you when you hold an iPhone or iPad too close to your eyes for an extended period. Apple says the opt-in feature is designed to help lower the risk of nearsightedness in children by encouraging healthy viewing habits, and can help reduce eye strain overall.

If you change your iPhone's passcode and forget it soon after, iOS 17 has a new option available to help out. Specifically, it is now possible to reset an iPhone's new passcode with the previous passcode for up to 72 hours after the change is made.

Starting with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma, users with an Apple ID will automatically be assigned a passkey, allowing them to sign into their Apple ID with Face ID or Touch ID instead of their password on various Apple sign-in pages, including icloud.com, appleid.apple.com, appstoreconnect.apple.com, and more.

What is iOS 17 Sensitive Content Warning feature?

The Sensitive Content Warning is a new feature introduced in iOS 17 that aims to protect user privacy by displaying warnings and shielding against sensitive content on your device.

This powerful tool acts as a safeguard for sensitive information received during FaceTime calls, text messages, and content shared through AirDrop.

Sensitive Content Warning feature serves as a valuable line of defense. It acts as a barrier against various forms of sensitive content, including explicit photos and videos, violence, animal and human abuse, sexual harassment, and other offensive material.

By locally storing data on your device, iOS 17 Sensitive Content Warning feature helps you to eliminate worries about potential data leaks and enhances the overall security of your iPhone.

The Photos app in iOS 17 can identify a wide range of symbols, including the laundry symbols that you see on clothing tags. As noted by MacStories' Federico Vittici, if you take a photo of a tag with laundry symbols, it is highlighted through the Visual Lookup feature, and can be tapped for a symbol translation.

Apple is expected to release major software updates for iPhones and iPads simultaneously this month, unlike last year's staggered release of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.

That's according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The well-connected reporter's sources within Apple tell him the company is considering the eighth betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to be the final versions in all but name, "barring any unforeseen circumstances."
