Hello! Recently, the topic of privacy on the Internet has been increasingly raised. The ubiquitous advice to all users is the use of a VPN, both on public networks and at home. Especially paranoid comrades even recommend using this scheme: first, your traffic comes through VPN No. 1, then leaves it to the Tor network, and leaving Tor, it goes to VPN No. 2, and only at the exit from VPN No. 2 it gets to target site. And back the same way. This is done not only to circumvent any regional restrictions, or to hide data from the provider, but also in order to disguise your IP address so that it does not get to evil hackers and they do not hack your system. I read a lot of articles on this issue, the authors of which have different opinions - from the opinion that knowing IP can hack the system to the opinion that this is impossible. I would like to hear the opinion of advanced users, is it really that knowing only the IP address, a malicious hacker, like in a Hollywood action movie, can already hack a remote computer in a couple of mouse clicks?

1- hacking home users via public IP using port scanning, etc... is a thing of the past, since now we have dynamic IPs and router firewall, the task is too complicated just to target home users. Easier to phishing you.
Those kind of manoeuver is mostly used against servers/sites with static IPs or people using torrent clients opened permanently.

2- the VPN chain you mentioned is indeed effective to remain anonymous but you have to trust the Tor Exit point and VPN.
This kind of setup will drastically reduce your connection speed unless you have a very rapid plan. Using this is really for the most paranoid ones, criminals or political activists. Privacy concerned people wanting to hide their IPs just have to choose a good VPN provider.

I heard and read lot of articles with dudes using fancy scheme like2-3 VPNs and Tor in different virtual machines, etc...
This is great for research purposes, not really needed for real life use.

Remember, VPNs is for privacy, Tor for anonymity.

Nevertheless, a program such as Nmap still does not lose its relevance :)

yes, tools like Nmap, Netcat, and many others still works but it is 10 times easier to send a targeted email with a malicious file or a link to a weaponized site than playing Trinity & Neo against a home user.
Even Mr Robot is way past that. LOL
