They say iPhones are more reliable than Android devices, but according to a report from Blancco Technology Group, it’s exactly the opposite, as Apple’s phones experienced a bigger failure rate in the third quarter of the year.

Specifically, iPhones had a failing rate of 62 percent worldwide, while Android did better with just 47 percent. And while this shows that iPhones might have a serious issue, it’s also very important to know why exactly Apple’s devices are crashing.

According to the report, apps and overheating were the two main problems invoked by Apple users, which is a little bit surprising given the fact that it was Samsung the one that had to deal with overheating on its devices (which eventually led to batteries catching fire). But the report shows that iPhones are also getting super-hot, and users are quite annoyed with this.
Pokemon Go anyone?
As far as applications that are crashing are concerned, the report shows that Pokemon Go is among the leaders, and this is no surprise. Niantic has struggled to improve its game from the very beginning, but rarely managed to do it, despite complaints from the millions of users across the world. And it didn’t cause just crashes, the report shows.

“Our data suggests that the problems resulting from playing Pokemon GO were not only limited to iOS users,” said Richard Stiennon, Chief Strategy Officer of Blancco Technology Group. “Battery charging ranked in the list of the top five performance issues plaguing Android devices in Q3 2016. Since users must keep both their device screen and GPS on in order to play the virtual reality game, both of these functions are known to drain the device’s battery charge.”

When it comes to iPhones, the iPhone 6 had the biggest failure rate - 13 percent, while the iPhone 6s was the runner-up with 9 percent. The 5s is next, also with 9 percent.

For Android, the LeEco Le 2 was topping the charts with 13 percent, while Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is far behind with 5 percent.

The top crashing iOS apps chart puts Instagram in the leading position, followed by Snapchat, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger, so the top is made up entirely of social apps. Google apps, such as Search and Google Photos, are also in the top 10.

I also have a iPhone 6S plus and haven't had any issues and this is my very first iPhone. All my other phones have been androids and I've had tons of problems with them all from low headphone output, poor battery life, constant app crashes, freezing up, lagging, etc.

My mom however loves Android and won't switch to an iPhone.

I'm a fan of both. I'm always looking at the most recent Android devices that come out debating if I should just keep my iPhone or switch back. But so far I love it and haven't had any issues at all and all my friends use one so iMessage is handy. Literally only my mother is the only one on my contacts list without one

Might be true on older iPhones when users push them to the limits be it, gaming or cpu intensive app are more likely to reduce the lifespan of your phone.

I have an iPhone 5S since it's release (2013). And I've never had any problem. Recently, I changed for first time it's battery in a store I trust, for an other certificated one , because I noticed the mobile phone, progressively, began to lose battery life: % was going down faster, and the mobile phone turned off even having 10-15%. I suppose these problems start when you exceed the recommended charge cycles, then battery starts to lose performance. But it's not a problem.:)
But I have to say I see that Apple has lost quality in their last products. I see old Macs and iPhones (3,4) so better made, and working better in their moment that actual products..

Have been using iOS for 5 years now and so far no overheating problems for me. The apps could crash sometimes but it very rarely happens.

I cannot tell either however those scenarios occur for Apple are perhaps isolated/rare incidents.

Usually Iphone that suffer on some issues are due to long term usage of usual habit task.

I really think a grain of salt won't really cut it here. So Pokemon Go, the world's most useless app, will lead to problems amongst a few others. Noted. Hint: Debug your programs before putting them in the store for the world to grab. As far as I know, bugs can and will crash any app on any platform.

Granted, I'm just one sample and hence my data isn't sufficient for a study, but none of my iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6+ and 7+ ever displayed major hick-ups. Some of them are still being used as hand-me-downs within the family. The 4S is in my car to record my travels.

On the other hand, the Note 5 I tried for shits and giggles quit on me after 2 weeks. A moisture problem according to Samsung which cannot and will not be repaired under any circumstances, neither for goodwill nor money. The most expensive doorstop I ever bought. Unnecessary to add that the darn thing was never subjected to water, not even worn close to the body during sweat-inducing activities.

Another thing I really appreciate is that none of my iPhones have melted half of my face away yet. :p

N.B.: I just like to use what works best for me. I'm not a fanboy of anything.*

@ttto: Yeah Apple has lost both creativity and futuristic techs that earlier Apple products had. Now, its more like a Chinese phone with hefty price tag and apple symbol. They are playing it safe these days since they don't want to lose the market and profit by making futuristic products.

Well, I think it's just that systems tend to become more unstable the more knobs and feats you slap on.

Apple especially has come to a complete stand-still though. A former ally of creatives and independent minds that deliberately dropped the customer base that saved its ass when times were tough, turned into a phone company, improving just barely enough to have an idea left for the next model.

The new line of Notebooks? Same power as last year, less battery, $400 slapped on top. Yet you can't really connect anything unless you invest another $400 in a bunch of adapters. Otherwise you can't even connect your new phone to your new MacBook.

I still like to use macOS for stability and workflow reasons, but bean-counter Tim Cook does all he can in order to push me off the boat, one hardware release at a time.
