Advice Request Is McAfee using Avira engine?

He being "Travis Witteveen" did not really go into detail about what McAfee is using from Avira. He could of just thrown them out there as an example of similar companies that use their technology e.g. Qihoo. IMO i find it hard to believe that for how big McAfee is, they would be using some Avira tech but who knows. I don't.

In their corporate services; McAfee Web Gateway (MWG), McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware Engine (GAM) and Avira.

As an additional engine, here's an post from 2013, but may be outdated.

The Web Gateway essentially has two engines. McAfee (plus the additional McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware features) and Avira.



By default, the option selected is "Full McAfee coverage" which means that McAfee + McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware scanning would be applied. If you selected "Layered coverage" for example, this would mean that McAfee + McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware + Avira (for certain types of files) would be applied in scanning. Etc...

Avira is also utilised in other free products like Qihoo 360.

well the avira engine is light and good so its a good choice for other company's which trying to not invent the wheel again and put concentration on another aspects
