Windows 7 users are reporting that the notorious update KB3035583 has been re-enabled on their computer without prior notice, so Windows 10 files could be again downloaded to prepare the upgrade to the new operating system.

KB3035583 was first released in the summer of 2015 to prepare the transition of computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to the new Windows 10. The update brought the infamous Get Windows 10 app that checked systems for compatibility issues with the new OS and downloaded all the prerequisites to perform quick deployment with minimum user interaction.

Those who didn’t want to perform the upgrade to Windows 10 could remove and hide the update or turn to third-party applications that blocked the new operating system completely in order to avoid any accidental install (accidents like this did happen and Microsoft apologized, promising to always offer full control to users and let them decide whether to install Windows 10 or not).

And now, it turns out that users who previously hid this update are seeing it re-enabled in Windows update, according to a discussion on reddit and other online forums.

Not happening on Windows 8.1, though
It appears that KB3035583 not only shows up in Windows Update but is also checked as a “Recommended Update,” so it installs together with all the other updates that you might receive.

“Looks like Microsoft has un-hidden and re-enabled KB3035583 last night. Make sure those of you who want to stay on Windows 7 have your updates set to not automatically install. I use GWX Control Panel - have put the registry settings in, but this keeps coming back. Check your Windows Updates today and hide it again,” one user explains.

At this point, it’s not yet clear if this is widespread behavior because some users claim they’re not seeing the update coming back in Windows 7, but if you do, make sure you hide it again in case you don’t want to upgrade to Windows 10.

But with the free upgrade window for Windows 10 ending in just a couple of months, you better reconsider your options because you are running out of time to install the new OS free of charge.

Well, subjectively speaking, I love W10 more than W7 and I think it's better operating system overall. But on the other side, it's really lame to force someone to do something he/she doesn't want to.
So expect Windows 10 Upgrade blocking tools like Never10 and GWX Control Panel to be updated very soon :D

If u see around u,.u constanty forced to do things.. tax its a good example.. P.S: if u disable complety the microsoft update in win 7 u never will see that forced move. no need extra programs to do that.

I would love to update to windows 10, but my on-board graphics are not compatible with windows 10(my main dead now pc was fine to run it), and looks like it won't be. Updated once to w10, everything was so blurry, wouldn't find my native screen resolution etc.

You gave a completely bad example and comparison, but with similar outcome, you don't pay your tax, you'll get penalty = you don't update your OS you might get infected. Tax was always payed, it never was free and it supports infrastructure of the state.
Some older systems, drivers and devices are not supported by Windows 10, but works excellent with Windows 7, so this forcing of users to upgrade is adware like behavior

Microsoft swears that users will always be asked before their computer is upgraded to Windows 10, but there are more and more examples that this isn’t always happening. And the latest blunder happened with no less than 120,000 witnesses.

Don't like when people are forced into upgrading when they don't want to. Especially if your system's hardware can't handle the new update. However, if your computer is adequate to run W10 I would strongly recommend updating. If Windows 7 support isn't going until 2021 who knows how long Windows 10 will be around. :P

Expect more tireless KB patches since the deadline is fast approaching to have free upgrade to Windows 10.

Same issues and thoughts all around, Windows 10 definitely improve but yet the path is not yet in the full force to be top.

I refused the update twice!
Yesterday she was installed as recommended! I did not notice lol
My question is ? It has much chance to give something wrong when upgrading ?
I have Windows 8.1 running perfectly, I really want to test the Windows 10, I want to upgrade before the deadline to update free end!
Would anyone had problems during the upgrade ? :)

being honest i have three pc all of them had windows 10 but since i dont like this new version i decided to downgrade the system to windows 8.1 and believe me if i tell you that no matter how many times i hide this bothering update, it will just bounce back from time to time, what is surprising is the fact that those three pc are different (talking about system config) and all of them almost at the same time i noticed that the update will just appear on windows update, if i can recall correctly this is the 5th time i see the update despite i manually hide some time ago :C

Well Windows 10 is the last version of windows so you might as well just upgrade. You'll end up with it sooner or later anyway.

Simple, just upgrade to Windows 10 so no worries on that annoying KB. :)

Or turn off Windows Update, although expose on security risk however usually people are barely infected nowadays. (unless a rare situation that accidentally execute something)
