KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

Why make Joseph Kony famous?

We want to make him known, which is really hard to do in a culture that has so many options and distractions and different stories. So the best way we knew how to do that was to take advantage of the fact that it was an election year, and insert his name into a mock campaign in the run for presidency.

I’ve been inspired by Lauren Hill’s quote, “Fantasy is what people want but reality is what they need.” It’s the sense that people don’t want to think about war or think about child trafficking and it makes sense, I don’t want to think about it either. But if you can do something to influence the end of violence or tragedy in the world, then you should do it.

The problem with Joseph Kony is that nobody knows who he is. It was actually an idea Michael Poffenberger [of Resolve] had while working in DC talking with Congressmen and Senators. He said, “You know Gaddafi is known in North Korea but Joseph Kony is just not known…I wish Joseph Kony was famous.” And out of that came the whole campaign.

Why I’m strongly opposed to the KONY 2012 campaign on sabotagetimes.com : http://www.sabotagetimes.com/life/kony-2012-why-im-opposed-to-the-campaign/

QUOTE:
'.. I’m strongly opposed to the KONY 2012 campaign.' :

' KONY 2012 is the product of a group called Invisible Children, a controversial activist group and not-for-profit. They’ve released 11 films, most with an accompanying bracelet colour (KONY 2012 is fittingly red), all of which focus on Joseph Kony. When we buy merch from them, when we link to their video, when we put up posters linking to their website, we support the organization. I don’t think that’s a good thing, and I’m not alone.

Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit, its finances are public. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services (page 6), with much of the rest going to staff salaries, travel and transport, and film production. This is far from ideal, and Charity Navigator rates their accountability 2/4 stars because they haven’t had their finances externally audited. But it goes way deeper than that.

The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces.' ..

'Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but Invisible Children defends them, arguing that the Ugandan army is “better equipped than that of any of the other affected countries”, although Kony is no longer active in Uganda andhasn’t been since 2006 by their own admission.' ..

'Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services.

Still, the bulk of Invisible Children’s spending isn’t on supporting African militias, but on awareness and filmmaking. Which can be great, except that Foreign Affairs has claimed that Invisible Children (among others) “manipulates facts for strategic purposes, exaggerating the scale of LRA abductions and murders and emphasizing the LRA’s use of innocent children as soldiers, and portraying Kony — a brutal man, to be sure — as uniquely awful, a Kurtz-like embodiment of evil.” He’s certainly evil, but exaggeration and manipulation to capture the public eye is unproductive, unprofessional and dishonest.'

'Military intervention may or may not be the right idea, but people supporting KONY 2012 probably don’t realise they’re supporting the Ugandan military who are themselves raping and looting away. If people know this and still support Invisible Children because they feel it’s the best solution based on their knowledge and research, I have no issue with that. But I don’t think most people are in that position, and that’s a problem.

People supporting KONY 2012 probably don’t realise they’re supporting the Ugandan military who are themselves raping and looting away.' ..

I looked up why he got arrested. I don't want to say he was doing illegal substances. Because that would only make sense.

With all that money, Why not get drunk eh? Be sure to keep donating money to support it.

At least the U.S gets to set foot in another country and claim some more oil. That certainly helps the children.

I don't support KONY 2012 but that doesn't mean I support the suffering of children in all 3rd world countries and have no desire to help if I could.

Invisible Children? Nah, Visible Scam is how I read it and always will.

The sheep that do support this and feel a need to defend the farmer, To each his own I say. But words mean nothing and I for one don't care what one has to say in defense.

Kony 2012. An absolute scandal. Something needs to be done about this Kony person, however the charity, Invisible Children, give only 20% of their income to the children, and to stop this person. I am going to spread awareness on this issue, however I won't agree to donate to this charity.
As Prorootect and MX says, this is all for money. Oil, sure but also the exploit the people living there. I say help the kids, but not the banker's pockets.
