Hello
At the beginning I will write what I have:
SpyShelter Fw, Adguard desktop full version, k9web protection, sandboxie will come soon
Now I would like to add to this some anti-virus program I just do not know which one, I have several options:
SecureAplus with avira offline engine but here on MT forum I found out that their privacy policy is not very good, second option is Emsisoft AM in this case also in this forum and not only there are opinions that this overrated product at the end is Eset Nod32 in this in a case, everything is okay, but is the protection offered by ESET still at a high level? There are still kaspersky, norton and bitdefender but kaspersky quite a lot of people accuse them of cooperation with the Russian government, norton also do not know if he is so saint and bitdefender know he has an appetite for Ram and a lot of bugs. What is expected, protection at a high level, so that there is an option to automatically scan the file as soon as it is downloaded, as done by norton or windows defender. The laptop is used mainly for the internet, sometimes games, banking, movies, music (sometimes download but not from torent)

If you searching for protection go with voodooshield it is available both in free/Paid.
Add emsisoft emergency kit or Hitman pro as Virus and Malware Removal Tools.
For Backup you can go with Aomei Backupper Standard free or Macrium Reflect free both are good.

As you have 1 out of the 3 main secure layers covered (the firewall), you need some sort of AV suite and web browser protection, this I can help with.

The layers:
1. Windows Firewall is your only layer which is covered currently.
2. Backup, in terms of backup solutions I would add Macrium Reflect.
3. AV, anti-exe or Behaviour Blocker & web browser coverage. Anti-exe would be VoodooShield, Behaviour Blocker being OSArmor. For your web browser I would suggest to add an Adblocker and Scriptsafe extensions to Firefox.
4. OS hardening (optional), this would be done via Syshardener, I don't class this as a layer as it's merely a ticklist to harden your Operating system further

If you're looking for an AV, Kaspersky or Forticlient can be your go to for free products. Or paid you could simply go with Emsisoft Anti-Malware or Eset Nod 32.

On the side of Anti-exe or a Behaviour Blocker you'd only need VoodooShield, with a BB you could add something to compliment it, but that could be overkill.

I hope this helps you in your choice moving forward for your config.

Well it seems you have safe browsing habits and you dont torrent wich is huge plus

If you dont have any spesific reason to install 3rd party antivirus just stay with the WD
I would choose syshardener anyday over OSA, just go throught the settings or use recommended settings if you want to install something to run with antivirus ( WD currently)

You always could use sandboxie on browsers, since you has k9 and adguard

Malwarebytes, adwcleaner, Hitmanpro, Emsisoft emergency kit are such nice tools to take look on. Just follow the ideas above & update the thread as you move and youl get alot of suggestions

Just dont hurry, take your time and the av you choose to go with..run it for a week and dont rush with uninstall ( like i always do)
Think wich kind of user you are, have you ever been infected by malware? Or just by stupid PuPs or PUAS?

Add bookmarks , like the bank website you use, maybe choose password manager to create safe passwords and avoid typing them to fake sites. Read emails you get carefully before clicking into anything, and same go with the web browsing

You haven't selected a suitable password management solution. There are many free and paid services to cover you, including open-source alternatives.

@Kuonirath:
  • Consider also to run manual backups of important data to external devices and/or in a cloud service.
  • As for "Virus and Malware Removal Tools", You may add: ZAM Free, MalWareBytes Free and HitManPro Free.
  • As for "Web Privacy", You may add also a VPN service.
  • A PassWord Manager would be welcome also.
Please kindly reflect Your changes editing Your config, and announcing them here, hanks for sharing :giggle:

Please mention the frequency of system backups and please do them at more regular intervals if it is zero otherwise a good config. Please take harlan4096 suggestions and you should be good.
