Hello everyone!

I have a question for all the techy guys here on MalwareTips , becuase I not that technical , when it comes to a computers hardware.
I have bought a new laptop yesterday and it has an ssd drive instead of an hdd drive. now what I have understood , that the writing to the disk varies from the hdd drive.....so my question is , is it wise to defrag an sdd when it gets fragmented , or will this procedure shorten its lifespan , or are there special defragmenting tools for ssd's , that can maintain a sdd , without wear and tear????
also is it wise to delete absolete prefetch data???

thanks in advance for your kindness in answering my questions :)

Tweak-SSD

Hi,

I use this software to optimize my SSD.
it's not good to defrag a SSD because the number of writes is limited.

See this for anothers informations

Star- It is important to know what OS you use. For Win7 and below, you can use any number of tweaking tools. If you are using Windows 8 (or 8.1). no SSD tweaks are required as Windows 8 will optimize your SSD for you.

For example, Win8 will determine if the drive is an SSD and will disable any defrag routines (will instead run a TRIM routine on a schedule). Also it will disable things like EnableSuperfetch an ReadyBoot for you.

If any have done tweaks on Win 8, best to run the WinSat utility to get things back to the way they should be:

done easiest by Pressing the Windows + R keys > type WinSAT.exe formal

Depending on your computer it can take up to 4 minutes and will require a reboot.

I meant if any changes were done by using a third party utility they should be reversed and just let Windows 8 monitor and optimize the SSD.
