So have been struggling with a really odd issue. When I access one site on the web, one that I use a lot (www.avsforum.com), a few days ago out of the blue, after a minute or so the website would change to a spoof site claiming to be McAfee and that I had a virus, should scan the computer, etc. I ignored it, ran Malwarebytes, which found some Altruistics thing on my laptop and quarantined it. Checked my Chrome Extensions, nothing unusual there. Went back into Chrome, and boom, same thing happening. Then tried another malware remover (HitmanPro), found some stuff Bytes didn't, but still didn't help. I then did a Tron job (via Reddit) which is supposed to be a much more invasive scan and removal tool. Also didn't help. Finally, installed an adblocker extension (uBlock Origin Lite), and it seems to be blocking the ad from popping up as it doesn't happen anymore. But if I turn off hte ad blocker, it comes right back, and I'd rather get rid of the culprit. Weird thing is...I tried Microsoft Edge which is a browser I never use, and received a different issue, with teh exact same site. Basically also results in a pop up except a different looking one (see both below). At a bit of a loss to know how I can get rid of whatever it is that is causing this?
