Microsoft needs to launch a new brand to handle its security products successfully according to co-founder and CEO of Kaspersky Labs, Eugene Kaspersky.

The outspoken Russian security executive said at the launch of Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 product in Sydney last night that consumers are unlikely to take a security suite seriously when it bears Microsoft branding, because Microsoft by nature isn't a security company.

But it would lose the one real reason for anybody to use it: The brand name Microsoft.
Everybody recognises Microsoft, so they have a reason to use a product from such a brand.
They wouldn't recognise this new brand, so they have less of a reason to bestow an equal amount of trust unto it.
It isn't rocket science, it's just human nature.

More along the lines of "Curse them for stepping into our turf. Curses!!"

Their window (heh) is closing fast. MS put out a more than capable free (as in gratis) AV solution. The firewall on W7 is good and does outbound filtering too. They just put out a new product that helps people recover their PCs from rootkit infections.

Windows 7 backup tool does disk snapshots.

AV vendors whine too much these days... others will follow. Learn to adapt, jeez.
