Microsoft is working on a brand new "Game Mode" feature for Windows 10 that will enhance the PC gaming experience by minimizing resources used by running apps to almost nothing and allocating freed up resources to the game, making it run faster, better and smoother overall.

This new feature was first spotted by WalkingCat in the recently leaked build 14997, and although it isn't working yet, we understand it's a feature that will be showing up for Insiders very soon, as it's something that's set to arrive with the Creators Update.

Our own sources have said this feature works similarly to how Xbox One handles running a game. Xbox OS, when a game is launched, will allocate resources to make sure the game is running the best it possibly can. Up until now, Windows hasn't had a built-in option for this that benefits games directly, but with the Creators Update that will be changing.

This sounds Awesome, and besides working with Steam, this has the potential,
if done wrong to bork or turn off a large number of security products that MS
will undoubtedly "accidentally" add to the list. Lets watch and see ;)
Awesome share Jack !

You don't, I don't even use them, what I was getting at is MS underhanded way "at times" of
using the tools at hand to harass 3rd party software especially security related software ;)

There are certain scenarios, albeit rare, that users can get infected when playing games. There were some steam exploits which allowed remote code execution in the past, and many games provide an in game browser which users can accidentally get themself exploited or download malware accidentally. Hence I would say a certain level of security, but not necessarily antivirus, is needed even when playing games.

I use the in game browser to search for guides, youtube or twitch in the background. Nobody should go to unknown sites either when playing games or anything else.No antivirus can protect those people from stupidity. For that I reccommend.
