One of the features coming in the Windows 10 Creators Update is called Game Mode and it’s specifically supposed to improve gaming performance by prioritizing processes used by games.
In a video rolled out today, Microsoft finally provides more information on this upcoming Game Mode, but without digging into details, as the feature is projected to be released to insiders with more options in the next Windows 10 Creators Update build.
Microsoft says that Game Mode will “prioritize CPU and GPU resources to your game” in order to improve the frame rate, but the company does not explain how exactly it’ll do that.

On the other hand, it looks like at least at first, Game Mode will require users to manually enable the feature for each game they launch, but at some point during development, automatic start could also be added. Microsoft says that some games will indeed support this feature, but not all of them, so there’s a good chance that users will still have to turn it on manually.
Already implemented in build 10514
At this point, the Game Mode is implemented into the feature called Game Bar, so in order to reach it, just press Windows + G on your keyboard and go to Settings > General. Upon launching the Game Bar, the app also asks if the process you are running is a game, so Microsoft could use this option to enable the Game Mode in Windows 10.
The existing implementation, however, is still in its early days, so it cannot be used, but that’s going to change with the release of the next Windows 10 build for insiders. Microsoft is also adding some new features for gamers, including streaming to Beam, but more information will be provided by the company when the new build goes live.
The Creators Update, which is due to launch in April, should bring this feature to all users if development goes according to the plan and no bugs are discovered.
