Microsoft recently rolled out an update to the stable version of its Edge browser. The update brings Edge to version 96.0.1054.29 and includes several new features. Microsoft outlined most of these improvements in a changelog, but that page does not list the addition of Super Duper Secure Mode support. The quiet rollout of that feature was confirmed by Microsoft Edge Vulnerability Research Lead Jonathan Norman.

Super Duper Secure Mode disables the "Just-in-Time-Compilation" (JIT) engine to improve security when browsing. The JIT engine can improve the performance of websites, but those improvements may come at the cost of security. Norman explains Super Duper Secure Mode in more technical detail.

The mode has two different options; balanced and strict. The balanced option adds security mitigations for sites people don't visit as often. When switched to balanced, Super Duper Secure Mode shouldn't affect the performance of most websites. The strict setting adds security mitigations for all sites. The drawback is that this option can prevent parts of certain websites from working.

No problems yet. Don't know if it is implemented right or not, no way to check.

Microsoft Edge's Enhanced Security Mode is an optional security feature of Microsoft's web browser that is designed to improve protection against attacks on the Internet.

Called Super Duper Secure Mode during its experimental testing phase, Enhanced Security Mode blocks access to the Just In Time compiler; this reduces the attack surface and makes it more difficult to use exploits according to Microsoft.

When enabled, Enhanced Security Mode enables additional protections provided by the operating system, such as Hardware Enforced Stack Protection, Arbitrary Code Guard, and Control Flow Guard.

Note: WebAssembly is not supported right now. Sites that use it need to be added to the exceptions list to make sure they work in Edge after enabling the security mode.

Microsoft released an updated version of Edge 104, which has been available in the Beta Channel since last month. Version 104.0.1293.44 brings general bugfixes and performance improvements, plus it enables Enhanced Security for all users by default.

Microsoft is looking to make browsing on its Edge browser more safe and secure for all users. According to the Microsoft 365 (M365) roadmap, the company is planning to enable the "Balanced" mode for Edge's Enhanced Security mode feature by default. Currently, users can choose to enable this setting and choose between the "Balanced" and "Strict" options. Previously, the tech giant referred to this technology as the Super Duper Secure mode.

This was added to the M365 roadmap a few days ago and under the feature ID "124963":

Enhanced security mode is being turned on by default to “Balanced” mode for x64 Windows, x64 macOS, x64 Linux, and ARM64 systems. Also, administrators have 2 new policies to manage the Enhanced security mode user experience: EnhanceSecurityModeIndicatorUIEnabled and EnhanceSecurityModeOptOutUXEnabled.

Microsoft making Edge more secure by default very soon on Windows, Mac, Linux, Arm
