Windows 10 Insider builds will now feature a Green Screen of Death (GSOD) instead of the classic Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error page we have all become accustomed to.

The change was teased on Twitter by Matthijs Hoekstra, Senior Program Manager for Windows Enterprise Developer Platform, and spotted by a user that goes by the nickname of Chris123NT.

According to Hoekstra, only Windows 10 Insider builds will feature the green error screen, while stable Windows 10 versions will continue to use the classic blue-themed error page.

Hoekstra didn't elaborate on the reasons behind the color change. One reason may be that Microsoft is trying to help support staff, who'd have a much simpler task differentiating from errors in stable Windows 10 versions and Insider builds, which are in-dev versions, meant only for testing, and prone to more problems.

Color-coding the error screens would allow support staff to triage bugs and prioritize customers.

GSOD added in leaked Windows 10 build
The current Green Screen of Death is active with the Windows 10 Insider Build 14997 that leaked online this week.

Maybe MS will feature the option to offer uses to change the theme for BSOD's,akin to changing the theme on your desktop!!:p:p

hahaha! Goood one! :D:D:D

Not sure why MS is so proud of their GSOD, its a system crash and they are possibly trying to coin a new trademark or term for their company. I am guessing they have it color coded for easier identification of insider and normal releases, pointless as their crash reports shows your windows version and its not like they are sending a screenshot of the GSOD, if they are, then more power to them. :p:p

Might be an ingenious idea tho:
Tech: what color is the screen during the crash
user : Green
Tech: Green is insider, its buggy and GSOD is normal, thx for calling

if user says Blue:
Tech: it will be fix on the upcoming patches, we have results in from the GSOD folks, thanks for calling

If users say Red:
Tech: we no longer support that version of windows, please update to win10, thx for calling

=P im out of ideas and i lack humor :(

What a small thing to change.. Changing the BSOD to green doesn't do anything other than probably annoy a lot of people.
Maybe they should try lessening the amount of BSODs or at least try and give actual information when a BSOD comes up or on the next boot to help fix the problem, so it doesn't happen again.
