AV-Comparatives, the renowned independent testing lab based in Innsbruck, Austria, has published its 2025 report on mobile antivirus solutions for Android. The comprehensive review includes six leading products from vendors such as Avast, AVG, Avira, Bitdefender, ESET, G DATA, Kaspersky, Norton, Securion, and Google’s built-in Play Protect.

The review was conducted using Android 15, and focused on real-world scenarios to evaluate protection against malware, false positives, anti-theft features, and battery usage.

Over 3,300 recent Android malware samples were used to measure the detection capabilities of each product. A separate false-positive test with 500 clean apps helped assess the accuracy and reliability of the scanners.

In addition, AV-Comparatives examined the anti-theft functions, testing whether lost or stolen devices could be remotely located or locked. The battery-drain impact of each app was also measured, simulating daily use cases like web browsing, video streaming, and emailing.

The report not only provides comparative results but also offers practical security tips for Android users. It includes an analysis of Android 15’s built-in protections and how these interact with third-party security software.

Thanks Gandalf, really great test site, any chance if you or anyone else knows if Microsoft Defender for a Android Phone is any good, I googled and really couldn't find much?
Unfortunately, I never saw a test with Microsoft Defender for Android.

@Dave Russo you may find this useful:
In all honesty, Microsoft Defender for Android and iPhone is probably not very useful for most people. Those platforms already have tools in place to keep your phone safe. Android devices have Google Play Protect, while iPhones have Gatekeeper and Protect.

That being said, if you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, it's free and there's no harm in using it to keep tabs on your devices. Microsoft has also committed to continue to add more features in the future. Things like identity theft protection and secure online connection.

At the end of the day, this form of Microsoft Defender is a bit of a strange product. It's not yet clear how useful it will be, but it might be worth checking out.

I'm recently playing with different Mobile Security apps. Just checking what the partnership is with Emsisoft and Total Defense and who the original is as both apps are totally identical.

These are rebrands of Bitdefender (white labels). What TotalDefence and Emsi have in common is their partner. Nothing else. Total Defence is the ex CA.
