It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

Av's are not perfect, I expect to cover at 99% of protection with multiple layers of protection and stay very well informed for news for example here in this great community

Agree with #1
About #2, i don't fully agree with that. Some AVs do provide better security features in their paid software like better cloud, web protection, Ransomware protection, exploit protection, identity protection, etc. A firewall is a good addition to the whole package and is not just a bell & Whistle.
Completely agree with #3 and up to an extent #4 (definitely need an on-demand scanner even with default deny solutions) too.
