Been working around, with and using computers since I first built my own way back in the early 70's. Made it like a kit. Ordered the case, motherboard, memory, processor, power supply and all those things. Put it all together and thought it was the greatest thing with a 2 GB hard drive and a 5 1/2 inch floppy disk running Windows 95. Now I have stuck with Windows-XP PRO and have been very happy with it. Does everything I need it to do. Currently have about 6 computers running in the house on a common network so I can share files as needed.

My work is with with public safety radio systems as a consultant. Have worked with and around public safety radio systems for over 45 years now. Am also a ham radio nut that has a bunch of radios in my truck to pass the time while traveling along the highways.

My problem is the computer will not allow any new .exe files to be run. I try to start them and it looks like it trys. but nothing happens. No error merssages.

Running Windows XP Pro SP3 on my laptop. Never seen this problem before on any computer. I did run Avast anti virus a little while ago. Not sure if it was that program or something that AVG did. But now I am stuck. I did run Windows repair, but it didn't do much.

I am about ready to try and just clean off Windows XP and do a fresh install.

About your problem, try doing a scan with Malwarebytes and/or Eset Online Scanner to see if it finds something unwanted.
