Greetings All...just signed up because I've been attempting to fight a virus/worm/whatever circumstance on my HP laptop computer running Windows 7 Home Premium OS for over a month now.

I worked in the IT world for over 30 years, starting out as a systems programmer on mainframes (Burroughs) using Algol, even did some CPM programming in the early 80s; however, after 1989 all of my work was concentrated in the world of data including databases, data modeling software, data profiling software, etc.

Thank you all. I've been reading some of the rules for posting a request for assisting in ridding my computer of malware, and the first question that comes to mind is whether it's necessary to start a new thread for a problem (I believe my problem involves the dllhost.exe COM problem) given that this appears to have been handled for other members on many occasions.

Welcome Ed3530 to this amazing site with knowledgeable members whom are as helpful as they are nice!
I agree with donetao's and StriderHunterX's suggestion, and by beginning a thread on our malware Removal Assistance forum, http://malwaretips.com/forums/malware-removal-assistance.10/
one of our malware removal specialists can then help you rid your system of what has been disrupting it's performance. Each individual thread is meant only to be followed by that person based upon an approach for their own system's unique situation. Good luck, and we shall look forward to reading your positive results to come!:)
