I can’t answer, because I haven’t yet tried the new Norton. It is possible that Gen may have made some performance optimisations. They may or may not become available in Avast and AVG.

These optimisations may include:

  • Reducing the main GUI code and GPU-optimising it.
  • Improving caching algorithms
  • Improving memory management and other resource-allocation mechanisms.

The new Norton utilises Avast’s engines instead of the Symantec STAR platform but it is not a 1:1 copy of Avast (at least not yet).


Edit: I also saw that PEP (Proactive Exploit Protection) which was essentially a NortonLifeLock patent, and not Symantec, has been kept. Norton may have better handling of exploits than Avast.
