There all much of a much-ness. They both do the same thing, it's just Norton 360 has more options compared to Internet Security.

As for the lighter part, well they both should be about the same.

Both Norton Internet Security and 360 provide the same level of protection against malware, and I'm saying this because the 360 suite is, basically the Internet Security Suite + some PC Tuneup features + a Backup module.
Here is a comparison table of this two versions : http://us.norton.com/comparison/promo
My personal advice would be to go with Norton Internet Security because this product is cheaper and you can always add some others (free or paid) third party programs that can help you with PC Tuneup and Backup.
Another good reason why you should go with Norton Internet Security instead of the 360 version ,is the fact that Symantec always releases more quickly the Internet Security versions. :)

Not much of a difference. IF you want TuneUp and Backup and want a worry free automated solution go for 360 edition. But if you have a bit of computer knowledge, you can buy Norton Internet Security, and use CC Cleaner or Tune Up Utilities and for backup and the default windows 7 backup tool.

Yeah the only difference is that 360 comes with Tuneup and Backup and Norton IS does not.
I would save your money and get Norton internet security + CCleaner + Advanced System Care Free and any backup which I what I am currently doing.
