Whilst I am not a fan of all the same technology reskinned several times, even more so when it’s sold under the Norton brand, it’s a bit dramatic to believe that Norton will become less effective. Fully relying on in-house technology allows Gen to invest, develop and improve. Something that’s not possible whilst Broadcom is in the mix. IPS may be lost but the Avast Web Shield is there. Whilst it doesn’t scan traffic per sè, it allows for very quick, nearly instant blocks of malicious IPs and domains. Creating IPS signatures is a manual process that takes time. Firewall is available in Avast products too. As to the test, just unpacking malware and testing it may lead to Avast performing slightly worse. But a real world test where malware is downloaded through the web will put Avast on par.
