OpenDNS Free or Comodo Dome Shield?. What do you think?.

Both versions are a public DNS with some functionalities more than pure dns resolution.

OpenDNS is a bit faster than Comodo and OpenDNS has EDNS Client Subnet (ECS).

One of the problem of using a third party DNS is that, for CDN servers, it gives you sometimes an ip outside of your country.
So the DNS is fast, but the ip it gives you is not optimal for your location.

So, it depends if the DNS has server located on your country.

Try them (using DNS jumper for example) , and do some ping on youtube and google, and other stuff, to see if there is a difference...

I don't know how is Comodo, but I've used OpenDNS many years, and the possibility of customization are nice... (with an account)

I think I would test the two, they are free...

Main differences between OpenDNS and Comodo Dome is that Comodo has malware protection and policys (network and clients). OpenDNS only has it on Umbrella paid service.

Comodo has dataservices around the world too.

Comodo Dome has a lot of customization, categories, malware categories, policys... you can try it and give your view.

Hello,
I had a free account on opendns. I could customize the categories to block (porn, nudity, gambling, malware...) and custom domain list to blacklist or whitelist...
Last week, I've deleted my account because I don't need anymore to block anything (my sons are older...)

You can even customize the logo on the block page: Introduction to Customizing Block Pages

I've kept opendns, but without an account.

A few weeks ago, I've tried dnscrypt with some french dns that supports dnscrypt+dnssec. They where fast, but I had some unresolved dns error.

Yesterday, after reading your post, I did a test with namebench, and in my home, opendns is still one of the fastest.

You can keep account and block some categories like adware.

It is possible that problem isn't on DNS, the problem can be on dnscrypt service that fails some times.
