" Outpost FREE gives you:
• VB100 certified antivirus
• Best-of-breed PC firewall
• Top-notch proactive protection
• Light-weight solution, no slowdowns
• Up-to-date technology — based on the latest Outpost 7.0
• Full compatibility for Windows 7, Vista, XP
• Full compatibility for 64-bit Windows "

It's been out for a while - after OSS PRO 7.0 was released and is currently v7.1.1, I think. Agnitum released it after pulling the plug on its Free Firewall.
In comparison with PRO [which is now up to 7.5.1, with significant performance improvements over the 7.0 release], it misses on:
  • Configurable System Guard
  • File and Folder Lock
  • Removable Media Protection
  • Attack Detection
  • IP Blocklist
  • Configuration Maintenance - Import, Export and New
When first released, you could only update once a day - it was a restriction imposed on the Free edition, which was pretty bad. The restriction has been fixed since, in v7.1.1, I think. There were also some major usability issues, such as any upgrade would be actually a new installation, and with import/export missing you'd have to start creating your application rules all over again [not sure if this is still the case, hopefully they have listened to the feedback and rectified this as well].

A registration is required for a year-long license. Also, you can only install the full package, meaning that you get the VirusBuster Anti-Malware engine, which although VB100-certified could be described as adequate...

This is the worst free suite that I've ever seen, You can get so much more with Comodo Internet Security which is also a free suite. CIS is much better too in most aspects.

I have tried outpost before and it doesnt agree with my computer for some reason.
Anyway comodo is far superior with no such restrictions and crappy nagware. Also agnitum claim this is the first free suite which is a load of crap.
Just my thoughts.

Their firewall feature is from better to nearly excellent, however its AV could called as mediocre performance.

+ The free suite is a watered down versio due from its lack features and updates.
