fwiw I received a US Customs bad zip code USPS text message on iphone this morning, :ROFLMAO: with a non-working URL that seemed targeted at Apple & Apple safari. It was some sort of dual attack as there was also some indication on macOS mini too although unclear how the mini could have been "touched" -- under further investigation...

It sounds like a phishing attempt indeed. Be sure to not click on any suspicious links and report the message to USPS. Also, consider changing your passwords and enabling two-factor authentication for added security.

Phishing attempt? Just delete it.
yes eventually I did delete it, but what caught my attention this morning was a 2d tab opened in safari on a Mac mini (not the iphone) that is only connected to router to monitor some security cameras. Very curious to me. I confirmed no one had touched the mini, so who opened that 2d tab / or how. wonder if some sync issue between iphone & mini, hacker was just waiting for me to click one or the other. I clicked neither. But put me on higher alert. o_O Also wonder if Malwarebytes real-time & scan on Mac mini is effective?
