Currently running Arch Linux x64 OpenBox. I switch operating systems alot but after using windows for years and not likeing windows 10 to much i decided to give Arch another go.

I mostly only use my computer to browse the web and watch videos which is why i decided to go linux.

Other than rkhunter and ufw i have nothing else really on the system apart from dnscrypt + dnsmasq.

All important data is uploaded to mega.

I will probs give firejail a crack just for a little more added protection.

@Parks are you using TintPanel2 as the panel for OB?

I would strongly suggest sticking to LTS release of the Kernel for time being. Had some issues with the one you had, both on High End and Mid End systems.

Did you place any packages under exceptions to not have it updated? As in using the IgnorePkg and IgnoreGroup. For more info, go here: pacman - ArchWiki

I myself used the IgnorePkg and IgnoreGroup as well as paccache -r command (that way I can always roll back up to 3 versions ago)

Hey, yes im currently using tint2 for the panel and my own conky config at top of the screen. Im still kinda new to Arch i been jumping to Arch from windows on and off for around a year. It took me around a month of watching videos reading the wiki and other random websites to get Arch to install using EFI boot with home and root partitions. I am always reading the wiki as i like to learn. Main reason i like Arch is because its not bloated with pre installed applications and you get to build it up from scratch.

I have had no issues yet with the kernel and my Arch has been running now for 2 weeks. I have seen videos about using the lts and have added them befor. As im on EFI boot i can have lts along side the other kernel and pick and choose which one to boot to so i will defo give it a try.

All i do is run rkhunter after any updates have been installed, run firefox and vlc with firejail --seccomp. As i back up everything and like setting up arch from scratch i dont mind the risks of upating the system lol.

Only issues i have at the moment is low wifi signal and because im on openbox now and again will get screen tear on youtube and weird scrolling issues in firefox. Apart from that all good. Arch is the best distro ever i love pacman! :)

Added compton yesterday to help the tear and firefox scroll issues seem alot better only problem is if i run compton as daemon it freezes the system.

Give Manjaro a try (they use their own repos), or give Antergos a try.

If you really want to just use OpenBox, use ArchBang.

Manjaro and Antergos are modified arch based, Antergos follows Arch vanilla with minimal tweaks.

One other alternative when it comes to less bloatware is pure Debian.

Enjoy.

Ah thanks for advice i tried antergos and manjaro befor and thats what made me want to jump to arch because i wanted to do things manually. I ran xfce for couple of months befor i decided to jump to openbox and i prefer it alot more. Its simple once you get stuff set up and fast. Was on linux mint for 2 weeks befor i started to distro hop 5 weeks into linux and i was up and running in arch and have not touched another distro since and dont plan to because pure arch is to much fun.

Must admit sometimes i do miss windows sometimes because its simple and easy and what im used to.
