Sony announces that it plans to bring the PlayStation Network service down for all its users starting on Monday, October 13, for a seven-hour period in order to perform maintenance on it, although it is currently unclear what element of it will be changed.

The PlayStation Store, the Account Management elements, the registration and all entertainment services will be inaccessible during the period.

Sony says in the official announcement that for online gameplay, “you may still play online if you are already signed into your SEN account via the relevant device before the maintenance begins.”

Trophies can still be collected by all gamers and those will be updated on the official player profile once the PlayStation Network goes up once again.

Sony says that it is aiming to answer questions about the maintenance period for the PSN, but the company has long been reluctant to talk about its upgrades, some of which might be security-related.

The popularity of the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales is linked at least in part to its network infrastructure and multiplayer elements.

At the moment, the team behind PS4 exclusive DriveClub has been having issues with the server load, which means the promised free PS Plus version of the racing game is not yet available.
