A report in the Wall Street Journal describes how a series of pornography sites have scammed dozens of major Internet and marketing companies out of fake advertising revenue.
When viewed by a user, the sites load dozens of hidden pages. These pages are filled with links to legitimate sites and scripts to click on the links. This turns the user into an ad bot, generating commission revenue for the perpetrators of the scam.
The WSJ article lists 2 names for porn sites found to be using the scam. We won't reproduce them here. Many victims are listed, including Google, Lycos, Mevio, Current TV, Verizon, and TD Ameritrade. These companies and law enforcement are investigating.
