Qihoo 360 is a Chinese antivirus.
In China, Qihoo is a behemoth in terms of software, because it's everywhere: antivirus, browser, privacy protection...
Internationally, Qihoo is known for its aggressive advertising.
In 2024, Qihoo is still a household name, but has changed its business model from “totally free” to “freemium”, adding paid features.
Let's see if Qihoo can protect us...
User interface :
Qihoo's interface is very colorful, with a strong blue tint.
It's quite elegant and well thought-out, despite offering functions that I find useless (such as temporary file deletion or “secure” installation of additional software).
For this test, I activate Qihoo to the maximum and add the KuPeng engine, which should increase anti-malware detection.
Qihoo does not install its extension by default. I decide to install it.
Web protection: 12/13
Despite a Trojan being installed, Qihoo defended itself well by intercepting downloads.
For me, the extension is totally worth a look, as it didn't block a single site!
Fake crack : 1/1
Qihoo did block installations of the fake crack malware.
Malware Pack : Remaining 32 files out of 110.
Qihoo's anti-malware engine remains average, but it has a good Cloud, as the antivirus is able to catch up with malware that has not been recognized.
Qihoo does have proactive defenses, which it uses, but its use is very mediocre, as the machine quickly becomes infected by large Trojans that inject various processes into memory (RegSvcs.exe injected by a RAT, svchoast.exe injected by AgentTesla and wab.exe by GuLoader).
Scripts are also running, downloading active loads.
Quite disappointed.
Final scan :
Qihoo : 2
Malwarebytes : 10
Autoruns : 0
NPE : 5
KVRT : 9 (Infection Memory !!! )
Final opinion:
Qihoo is an antivirus that loses performance.
The software is weighed down by useless functions, and offers interesting features that are limited or non-functional in the free version.
The anti-malware engine is in decline, and proactive protection is relatively mediocre against certain attacks.
It's a shame, but Qihoo really needs to make an effort.
I wouldn't recommend it.
