Question Question storage media

I faced a scenario where redownloading lost data of 1.4 TB (mp4 files) will cost 50 USD while buying a backup 2 TB WD HDD will cost more than 80 USD.
Reloading how, using a service or redownloading? Because if it’s redownloading… yeah. That would take awful lot of time.

Time is not the real obstacle, it is the cost; we pay for a monthly quota (no unlimited plans); I get 140 GB for 5 USD monthly.
Is it some sort of a 4G/5G broadband? Also, what is the speed? If it’s slow speed, it will take forever and ever and on top of that it will cost you, not to mention I am not sure how you will remember all files (if they are songs or something).

Unless everything is neatly on a cloud storage and you can just select and download at once.

The HDD seems like the better option.

It is ethernet.
Also, what is the speed?
Slow; does not exceed 15 Mbs/sec.

Peazip has a nice feature of exporting a list of the file names inside a folder in txt file.

Agree; I considered getting one as my SATA HDD had a fault making Crystaldiskinfo to display caution for a huge numer of reallocated sectors.
Got a refurbished 2 TB SATA HDD for 38 USD and the seller copied the 1.4 TB data from the old one to for extra 2 USD 😂

Another thing with the cloud backup is, you pay for both the upload and download of data. So it eats your monthly allocation too. Not sure if this is a regional thing or ISP dependent

Is that metered connection and not unlimited data on home internet? That's a tough situation to be.
Yes, it is.
Long time ago (15 y ago or more), we had free plans (of course for very slow speeds 512 Kbs/sec or less), but to reduce the monthly payment, neighbors used to illegaly share the same subscription using cables across the building.
And consequently, ISP decided to apply the quota plan instead.

Cloud storage is more suitable for areas with good infrastructure and high speeds.

In order to backup a 7 GB W iso with 1 Mbs/sec upload speed, it will take ages.

I started with 28 KBPS Sony External Modem. Everytime someone will ring our phone, internet gets disconnected.

Imagine if this cloud backup happened during that era. It will be for ages.

Almost everything went online when the speed went faster. Ecommerce,Schooling, Work from Home etc.

I always thought that 2.5" HDDs were fragile near any magnetic source. I was told in the past that proximity to magnetic sources corrupted data on the platters.

Which HDD technology is good for archiving?
I'm careful with my 2.5" HDDs; I don't touch them while they're in operation.
Can recommend these two: Have had these for some years now and they are on all day long without any problem.
