I would recommend changing your real-time protection to antoher free anti-virus. I would also Strongly recommend to install an-on demand scanner like: malwarebytes' anti-malware or Hitman pro

i dont totally second that, Win8 defender (with the other built-in security feature) s good enough

If your good with Windows built in features maybe UAC to always Notify
Sandboxie is without a doubt one of the best free programs you can use
Malwarebytes and or Hitman Pro
Google Chrome extensions -> HTTPS Everywhere,LastPass,AdBlock Plus,Wot

Thanks, I like your "Rascal" config! Much knowledgible experienced MT advice here has made me a reformed believer that User Account Control, with Windows Defender & Firewall, provide ample protection for Win 8.1 . Your config's quite similar to our own (newer) lap top's, although I've not added Sandboxie to Win 8.1 (yet) after I'd read it only works smoothly with beta version 4.07.05 http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=16752&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 (last 6 postings)
