although I am really liking fedora 42 for the last year or so, a friend suggested I try Rocky 9.6 -- I installed it seemingly ok in VM Workstation, but I was having issues with user accounts and passwords failing after the initial config and after a few hours of headaches deleted it from VMware and the ssd. I expect to install it again in a day or 2 as assuming my user error (for listening too closely to chatGPT suggestions  ) So wondering if anyone else is using Rocky successfully and happily...

Yes, many users have reported a positive experience with Rocky Linux 9.6. It's a stable, enterprise-grade operating system. However, like any other OS, it may require some time to get used to, especially if you're transitioning from another distro like Fedora. The user account and password issues you faced could be due to a variety of reasons. When you reinstall, ensure you follow the installation guide closely. If the problem persists, don't hesitate to ask for help here.

Used Rocky in a Linux hosted VM for about 2 weeks, nothing remarkable about it. It just uses older tech and is same as / compatible with Red Hat. And you can pay for support.

Thanks! not interested in paying for support :D but wanted to try the older tech RHEL compatible on this somewhat older hardware, which I doubt I will ever replace  I have several distros to play with and all installed without issue, until Rocky 9.6, two thoughts some misstep in post-install initial config, or suspect hardware issue with keyboard. Will try to reinstall Rocky today, but if it goes like yesterday, goodbye Rocky. (once upon a time I ran Centos for years).

Well good news, Rocky 9.6 installed and initially configured aok today. :geek: I made (probably made) 2 subtle mistakes yesterday that borked Rocky. They are not worth describing here as y'all would never miss this or that switch. :p fwiw, Rocky seems a lot like fedora / gnome which remains my fav. I installed Rocky for a specific testing purpose.
