Rumor: Microsoft could dump Windows brand after Windows 8?

At the moment, Microsoft is working on Windows 8, the next version of its long running PC operating system. Windows 8 should launch sometime in 2012 and plans are for it to be made available for PCs, tablets and other devices. But what about the next version of Microsoft's operating system beyond Windows 8? According to a story on This Is My Next, unnamed sources inside Microsoft claim that the company has a radical plan that could change pretty much everything about how Microsoft develops its operating system.

Interesting post, I somehow doubt they would abandon the brand name still, since there's no real reason for doing it. We're looking at a future way beyond the current one really, this is after Windows 8 is released and already has some years to it, so it's unlikely anyone would know the truth just yet, but this is still interesting to read about. Thanks for sharing! :)

That would be the biggest change since the start of Windows. I wonder if Microsoft will actually push ahead with this rumor. I'm not entirely for it, as Windows XP is still not losing it's position in the market, and Windows is a very recognizable brand name. But thanks for the share :D

The Windows brand seems to be doing fine, so unless they are rewriting the OS a new name wouldn't make much sense.
