Any “unilateral administrative sanctions” by the U.S. may provoke a response from Russia, whose administration systems use “a large proportion of American software and hardware solutions in the IT sphere, also in very sensitive areas,” Nikiforov told in an interview on Friday. He refused to identify U.S. software products that may be moved by any complementary sanctions.

A country’s use of “foreign software isn’t fundamentally about data risks as it undergoes screening and certification systems” against possible secret code that may threaten the security of computer networks, he said.

Amid political debate in the U.S. over computer hacking and alleged Kremlin interference in the 2016 presidential elections, the Senate Armed Services Committee has suggested banning the Pentagon “from utilizing software platforms developed by Kaspersky Lab due to statements that the Moscow-based organization might be vulnerable to Russian government authority.” Kaspersky Lab said it doesn’t assist with any government in cyber-espionage, the Interfax news service reported Thursday.

FBI agents questioned at least a dozen employees of Kaspersky Lab in the U.S. this week as a role of a counterintelligence inquiry, according to NBC News, which published that the company has “long been of interest” to the governments. There’s no sign the records were linked to a U.S. investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the elections, the broadcaster reported.

For me the ban is the problem. Why can't they just review the software and choose something else? If the numbskulls here in the US eliminated the brain dead grandstanding and simply settled on the best choice, Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, Symantec, Oracle, and a large number of other American software companies wouldn't get pushed under the bus over this issue. Competition is fair play, grandstanding is moronic.

The witch hunt of the USA against Russia is starting to get old. I was just a kid when there was still talk of the cold war and even as of today there's always news of Russia being the big bad wolf. I'm far from being pro-Russia but i think it's about time Western countries makes peace with Russia. Because if something goes wrong, whatever it's an economic war or a nuclear war, guess who's gonna suffer ? The people (on both sides), as usual, while a bunch of middle age men are hiding behind desks or in bunkers.

Sorry i think i got carry away into some political stuff

kaspersky must hit back hard and start providing its product free of cost all over the world even then American DoD will use it in their home
Will never happen, they sued Microsoft because Windows Defender threatened their market shares...
kaspersky is greedy and willing to put every users at risk because they may loose some incomes...pathetic behavior of a looser company and i see many lately.
And i don't believe American DoD will really need it, US military already use Appguard :D

it is our duty to make both sides understand "to make all their software and OS like kaspersky ,norton, mac ,windows etc free"
we have nothing to do with CIA or KGB so our goal should be how to get software free of cost

Not our duty at all and we shouldn't t even have a voice on the matter.
They are businesses, they do it as they want.
I will be very annoyed if some people start asking me to give the product i took years to create for free.
If people don't like to pay for mine , they are free to shift to other "free" products .

Free softwares will never happen. Same goes for free games, movies, music and such. Making a software and maintaining it with regular updates costs time and money. We are not entitled to anything. A company propose a product at such price and we the consumer can either buy it or not. As for free products, they aren't really free as they make money another way (ads, selling your data, proposing your to upgrade to a paid version, etc...).

Also not all companies are necessarily greedy. I don't have a lot of money but i'm glad when i buy a license of products such as VoodooShield or Emsisoft to know that i'm participating in financing such amazing companies and passionate people.

I agree. "You get what you pay for" is the expression here in the US. Pay nothing->get nothing.

It is good to pay for good software.
