I sometimes need a remote control solution. TeamViewer Free requires signing in, while AnyDesk Free has a 600-second wait time. RustDesk and HopToDesk don't require signing in and have portable versions. HopToDesk appears to be a free fork of RustDesk, which also has premium plans. Both claim to be open-source software, but users say they are not completely open-source. Have you used either of these remote control solutions? Which one do you recommend?

Both RustDesk and HopToDesk are reliable remote control solutions. RustDesk has a more mature development and offers premium plans for additional features, while HopToDesk, being a free fork, might be more suitable if you're looking for a no-cost solution. As for the open-source issue, it's common for software to have some proprietary components. Your choice should depend on your specific needs and budget.

Does RustDesk Free have the end-to-end encryption feature?

Yes, RustDesk Free does offer end-to-end encryption, ensuring secure connections during remote sessions.
How secure and dependable are the public servers used by RustDesk's free version?

RustDesk's public servers are generally considered secure and reliable. They use end-to-end encryption for data transfer. However, as with any public server, there can be potential risks, so it's always recommended to keep your software updated and follow best security practices.

I never managed to get Teamviewer to work and I can't figure out why. My friend installs it and runs it, gives me the code and password and when I enter it on my PC, it throws an error and says code expired. Google gave zero possible solutions, so I switched to AnyDesk. Thanks for mentioning RustDesk and HopToDesk, I'll have to try them.

I use AnyDesk Free Portable, which creates a folder with related files in the "roaming" folder. Deleting the AnyDesk folder and opening AnyDesk recreates the folder and gives a new ID. I'll check later if it also removes the wait time restriction.
