Ms Defender is quite sufficient nowadays, but to answer your question one has to know what you do on the pc. If you hardly do anything on it besides surfing, then Defender with web protection of some sort is enough

Here is an idea of setup with Kaspersky.

I personally choose to use Windows integrated security, I leave you a link where you can find the tools to make Windows much more secure and efficient.
Here is a link to a tool that is essential today as ransomware stop/djvu are the ones that harm the end user.

Thanks for the reply, mostly pc games downloaded from torrent, just want to feel safe. And so that security methods do not particularly affect computer performance

ConfigureDefender, use this tool to harden Windows Defender, simply launch it, click on "High" under Protection Level, then click on Refresh, then restart.

The best antivirus has always been common sense, keep your system and applications up to date, especially your browser, avoid torrented/pirated/cracked and otherwise illegal software, and be suspicious of every email and link you are sent.

I guess you use the inbuilt Ms Defender now, and if that does not have a negative impact, you are ok with the continued use of it.
Then just apply the suggestion in post #5 and add some web protection from Edge/Google Store and you are ok.

But, always do some sort of backups, just in case.

Torrented, along with cracked, pirated and other illegal software, is the most common way home users get infected, no antivirus will help you if you continue torrenting as its impossible to directly tell apart "legit" torrents from malicious ones.

Regarding backups, this may be due to the fact that I am not making a complete copy of the system, when creating an incomplete copy of the system by any programs, for some reason, many services are turned off during recovery, and the speed of ssd drops noticeably

Hello,

Microsoft has changed the use about Defender and Features with Microsoft 365 Single and Family for Private use. So if you already have Office 365 Single or Family a migration should take place and you would be converted to Microsoft 365 Single or Family.

It includes the Features showed here: Microsoft Defender for Individuals | Microsoft Security

The best part even the App itself can detect installed Anti-Virus Products like the Security Center but gives more insight for ppl that only want to use MS-Defender:

The other part no Bloatware with Features like: VPN - Junk Cleaner - Registry Cleaner and other stuff....

Build-In Security with Windows 10 / 11 :D

Best regards
Val.

Thats odd, should not happen.
Try Macrium Free. Then backup the absolute neccesary which is, boot - C: and recovery partitions.

What have you tried so far and what partitions do you backup?

Assume that malware can now attack without activity on your part, can now come from legitimate sites and software, and can even do things like bypass systems and attack embedded software.

If you don't have a lot of free time, then avoid tweaking. Otherwise, you might end up spending a long time figuring out why the system or some software is malfunctioning.

In that case, go over tests and look at what AVs offer the best protection. You may install the trial versions and run benchmarking programs (like the free version of Novabench) to test and see what's lightest.

Backup, and if possible, periodically. That way, you can restore data faster. Keep in mind that backup and restore don't prevent data theft.

Use adblockers and other security extensions for browsers, etc.

In my opinion, the best way to avoid getting infected is to keep Windows updated and to be very careful what files you open. Don't open email attachments unless you are sure you know the sender, avoid pirated software as it often comes with malware and only download apps from the official sites or well known download sites. Doing this, along with using a good antivirus will keep you very well protected. Most infections happen when you manually open infected files and no antivirus can protect you against all malware. If you are very careful about what you open, it greatly minimises that chances of you mistakenly opening an infected file.

For an antivirus, Microsoft Defender is very good. If it causes slowdowns, Kaspersky is an excellent alternative and there is a free version.

Also you should make regular backups of your system, so that if you do get infected you don't lose important files.
