You might add a second opinion on demand scanner like Zemana Anti-Malware free (or paid) and/or Emsisoft Emergency Kit (portable, free, fast scan).

Have been using Acronis True Image since their 2009 version (presently using 2016).

Btw, does Adguard Windows desktop app fit in any security category here?

Nothing wrong if you use Malwarebytes Premium alone however for safety and extra protection then you can alongside with a typical AV.

MBAM's protection capabilities are still in the room of improvements and as we all know, the results are clearly shown based on numerous reviews.

Meanwhile Adguard is fine as it focuses on advertisement blocking functionality, so no conflicts to your current protection.

Malwarebytes is definitely not a reliable option if used alone. Their detection is still far beyond typical AVs specially in worms.
I would use Voodoshield or Comodo Firewall as a second line defense.
A backup is always recommended, consider Macrium Reflect Free.
Last but not the least, switch to Windows 10, you can find some cheap licenses in Amazon from time to time which are worth every penny.

Never heard of Voodoshield before.
Don't like anything Comodo (feel like being closed in a box).
Have tried Windows 10 since its inception and a recent hic with Acronis True Image 2016 as a result of latest irreversible update made me revert back to Windows 7. Who knows what other shareware or freeware will get a hic as a result of future Windows 10 updates from which we can not roll back, at least not on a longterm!
If software is working fine with Windows 7 and not on Windows 10, why should i pay to upgrade?
Maybe best is just to let Windows 10 roll by for a little while...

Search some info about Voodoshield, you will find it is a solid automatic VT scanner and default-deny solution.
Comodo Firewall is definitely not like being closed in a box, if you tweak Proactive security the right way you will almost not feel the sandbox running.
The decision to upgrade to Windows 10 is yours, but I don't see how freeware could become incompatible after a patch. What actually happened?

Will check up on Voodoshield.
Latest Windows 10 upgrade stopped Acronis True Image 2016 from working.
Don't have the error message on hand, but it was nowhere to be found in their forum.
Did re-install Windows 10 and same error message came back.
Just don't feel like upgrading (paying) a shareware version of Acronis True Image on account of Microsoft.

I use Malwarebytes 3.1.2. With Bitdefender, they go real good together(just a thought)

It comes with 360 Total Security.

It's a good ad blocker, where it excels over Ublock is that once installed it is not just for your browser, it is system wide and will
block some app & system based adds
In my opinion it fits into the category of "A smart choice"

Sadly it does this with a lot of security software that's supposed to be compatible (even software that isn't an AV such as Comodo Firewall). The way to get around it is to install Bitdefender first then Malwarebytes afterwards.

I'm not sure if it will disable itself with MB installed or not seeing as MB has always been considered a secondary real-time protection solution until v3 (or so MB claim) and the fact it isn't listed on Microsoft's security vendors list. It should disable itself if you install Bitdefender and you can always disable it manually through the UI, group policy, or the registry.

Fact is, even if MB isn't on "Microsoft's security vendors list" as you quote, even MSE is not a fail-safe thing in itself.
In fact, i recall a time when Microsoft Security Essentials was to be "the" AV for Windows OS, right?
If this were true, then why the present need of so many other AV apps for Windows?

The other thing that really has always pestered me, is the ongoing, aggressive Microsoft push on Windows 10.
IMHO, if an OS is so good and secure, it doesn't need publicity.

@frogboy - VS was on my must do list... briefly looking at it, did install it but, correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems to be much like WinPatrol.
Wish there were options for VS icon to appear elsewhere (already have Adguard Windows app icon).

If you right click on tray icon it gives you the option to move the shield.

You can also just hide the icon.
