So I have just realised Microsoft developed a standalone on-demand scanner, just like many of those we use regularly. Taking into account the telemetry Windows 10 has with security and detected threat, it may be promising.

Has anybody tested this?

Link: Safety Scanner - Windows Defender Security Intelligence

Microsoft Safety Scanner is a scan tool designed to find and remove malware from Windows computers. Simply download it and run a scan to find malware and try to reverse changes made by identified threats.
Safety Scanner only scans when manually triggered and is available for use 10 days after being downloaded. We recommend that you always download the latest version of this tool before each scan.
NOTE: This tool does not replace your antimalware product. For real-time protection with automatic updates, use Windows Defender Antivirus on Windows 10 and Windows 8 or Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7. These antimalware products also provide powerful malware removal capabilities. If you are having difficulties removing malware with these products, you can refer to our help on removing difficult threats.

Several years ago (maybe 4 or 5) I used this scanner. I remenber that It was not very good, but I'm sure that MS will have improved this product (taking into account that Microsoft is worrying more about security).
Possibly try it when I have more time.

Yeah right, the one and only time i ever had Malware was when i was using MSE (back in the day before i knew anything about security, oh sorry, i still don't know much, do i ?) anyway, a load of baloney about that particular AV.

BTW, no, i haven't tried it :)

Of course Microsoft cared very little back then for Microsoft Security Essentials, but we've seen change on the security focus with the implementation of Defender and it's new technologies. Hopefully, they've added new detection capabilities that could have been added to this on-demand tool :)

I been using this tool as an extra security layer for years and I recommend one try it in Safemode and do a Fullscan as that's where it caught some sneaky ones on my machines but even if I used it at long time I never really tested it Hub style so can't say it super great but it does work as a extra offline tool.
