It's destined to be discontinued. Nobody would monitor for new drivers for thousands of devices over a number years for free.

The ecosystem at present works: if you want ease of use for your customers' devices, you pay ms to distribute your drivers.

If you want free uptodate things, use Linux. If you want them pronto use Fedora or any 'rolling release' distro like Arch or OpenSuse Tumbleweed

I doubt it. It was first released in 2014 and is still going strong. It's worth noting too, that in the last few years an ever increasing number of driver update tools that you had to pay to use, now let you update drivers for free.
