I needed some tape for sleeping. I placed 2 orders. One was a 30 days supply which I would keep on hand to cover outages.

The second order was for 6 months, and this order would renew every 6 months so I don't run out again...

Next morning I see 2 emails. One saying we canceled your order, and the second one saying your order is on the way... I said to self "oh boy" here we go I have to babysit these people now.

Here is there email, and my response. I decided to try and be very nice, and diplomatic. My first desire was to say, "there was no confusion on my part, just on yours. Please put the order back the way I had it...

Instead I wrote something nicer.

Hi Rod,

We hope this message finds you well.

We noticed that multiple orders were placed under your name for the same items. To avoid any confusion or inconvenience, we have canceled the duplicate order(s) and issued a full refund for the same. Rest assured, your order ( 6 month supply ) has been retained and is currently being processed as scheduled.

Refund Details:

Refunded Order Number(s): PMD554321

Dear Richard:

I appreciate the vigilance. But There was no confusion.

I did that on purpose to have a 30 day supply on top of the 6 month supply (subscription) that renews every 6 months to cover any delays in shipping.

The first order was just a 30 day supply only, with no renewal. The second order was a 6 month supply, a subscription that renews every 6 months.

I guess we'll just live with the cancellation and chalk it up to a good plan to cover for the USPS thwarted, and go with my fingers crossed instead.

Thank You

You handled it politely, but your reply also (a) concedes the cancellation and (b) doesn’t give them a clear action to take. If you actually want the extra 30‑day “buffer” order, it’s better to be friendly but explicit: “please reinstate” or “please create a one-time order,” and ask them to confirm in writing.

Here’s a tightened, still-diplomatic version you can send (edit order numbers/dates as needed):

---
Dear Richard,

Thank you for checking on the duplicate-looking orders.

They were intentional:
  • Order PMD554321 was a one-time 30-day supply to keep as a buffer for any shipping delays.
  • The other order is the 6-month subscription that renews every 6 months.

If possible, please reinstate the canceled one-time 30-day order (or create a new one-time 30-day order for me) while keeping the 6-month subscription active as-is.

Please confirm once this is done, and let me know if you need anything from me to authorize it.

Thank you,
Rod
---

If you don’t want to push for reinstatement and just want to document the intent for next time, your original note is fine—just remove the “we’ll just live with the cancellation” line and replace it with “please note for the future that these may be intentional.”

If you paste the company name and what the product is called on the receipt (just the product name—no personal info), I can tailor the wording to match their terminology (“subscription,” “autoship,” “recurring,” etc.).

This is actually a good thing. The business you ordered from is on the ball. People often wrongly order twice or three times, often spending time refunding or returning orders.

It's a also a good sign they take customer service seriously and probably take fraud seriously knowing your experience.

I agree, and I understand your point.... But being they deliver thru USPS, and being GOV, they sometimes are very relaxed about deliveries. Thus my effort to have a small surplus on hand. So this time it was kind of customer dis-service.
