The campaigning group ‘Anonymous’ has put Sony in its sights, launching a denial of service attack against the company’s PlayStation network websites in protest at its legal pursuit of PS3 jailbreaker, ‘Geohot’.

“Congratulations! You are now receiving the attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal actions against fellow internet citizens, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo have been deemed an unforgivable offense against free speech and internet freedom,” reads a message posted to a campaign website.

RE: Anonymous hacker threatens Sony over jailbreak lawsuits

Anonymous is at it again, this time attacking Sony and its playstation.com site for gamers, promising to publish personal details about Sony executives online and to unleash a triple wave of botnets against company sites.

The playstation.com site was unavailable at 11:30 a.m. Eastern as promised by Anonymous and despite Sony hiring distributed denial of service mitigation firm Prolexis to protect its sites. Half an hour later it was up but painfully slow.
