Switzerland suspends 5G mobile network service due to growing health concerns
by Cesar Munera | The BL 02/13/20

As the 5G phone network expands around the world, the service is beginning to raise serious questions about the implications for people’s health. Switzerland is among the countries in Europe where a latent fear of radiation from antennas in the mobile service has spread.

According to an article in the Financial Times, Switzerland was one of the first countries to start implementing the 5G network, however, concerns about the health impact of the network led to the country’s suspension of the service for an indefinite period.

As the Swiss information portal Swissinfo.ch points out, around 2,000 people were mobilized in Switzerland to oppose the spread of 5G technology throughout the country.
The massive mobilizations took place in 16 cities including Zurich and Bern, and there was even a rally in front of the U.N. building in Geneva, according to the media.

But questions about the long-term effects of the 5G mobile network are not only an issue for Switzerland, since on Jan. 25 different scientific and environmental organizations from different countries joined together to demand the U.N., WHO, and the European Union not implement the 5G network, according to the organization in charge of convening the global event.

So far there is no clarity or scientific evidence to support the adverse effects related to the electromagnetic fields generated by the 5G technology wireless networks offered by the telecommunications companies.

However, the WHO together with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have classified all radio frequency radiation (including mobile signals) as “possibly carcinogenic,” as reported by the BBC.

Similarly, various experts have concluded that electromagnetic radiation pollution has been a problem since before 5G, emphasizing that sources of “electrosmog” should be significantly reduced.

As for the implementation of 5G wireless technology, the service requires operators to add 5G equipment to existing mobile masts in order to emit more powerful signals, according to a report by Bloomberg Businessweek.

As Bloomberg points out, 5G network-enabled masts employ a high-energy process known as ‘beamforming’ to transmit only to devices that can read the signals.
It is this increase in energy intensity that has led to an alarm about health risks from various activist groups.
