To be fair, Telegram never was private, end-to-end encryption was disabled by default, and even then it was was only via their Secret Chats.

Laila, Of course I'd like to see more done to stop pedophiles and other criminals. The problem is that I don't trust the government to always do the right thing. Is there a political agenda when they go after someone. I think people see this kind of thing as leading to the "thought police" tracking those that don't have the same opinions as what we are told we should have. In the UK they have time to send the cops out to scold people about passing on a tweet that doesn't conform to what the government agenda is pushing but not enough officers to investigate burglaries and other real crimes.

You see, thats the problem with how people like you think, you dont trust your government simply because they dont conform to your opinions.

its possible you also want to feel special, standing out of the crowd, to achieve that you attempt to defy the people in charge, in order to feel like you have the power to change things around you.

Why do people here care if police investigate criminals and organizations divulge their data? It has nothing to do with you.
E.g. In germany they said they would use the data from covid apps only when there is an outbreak to inform people that they could be infected (so only for health reasons and not for use by any policeforce). Later on it was misused trying to solve drug/violence related crimes by some police stations. So what could possibly go wrong.....
