Certainly the concern for privacy can be a reason to not rely on it (and other chinese products).
But what is privacy today? Americans seem to have some doubts about Kaspersky. Not to mention what happened to CCleaner now acquired by Avast....
What America thinks is irrelevant specially considering they don't have any sort of evidence to backup their claims.
Chinese are not trust-able whasoever though, they are in all sorts of problems when it comes to privacy (more than any other Country in the world).
I would put Americans right after the Chinese when it comes to countries you shouldn't trust at all, but if people want a holy grail when it comes to privacy, don't connect to the Internet.
