I, like many others, have been hit with Smart HDD, what a nightmare! Can anyone tell me if RKILL has a free download, all I seem to find is one that wants to charge. I can't seem to move past the first step and my computer is running haywire. Any and all assistance would be most appriciated. Im not very technical but trying real hard to resolve this issue myself.

Hello and welcome to our community :welcomewave:

Rkill is definitely a free program and free of charge, here is the link

By the way if there's a problem from removal process I highly suggested to make a thread on this link. Most of other members were having also experienced the problem related on the removal of Smart HDD thus they made their threads too.

Thank you, I will try it. The last time I tried it kept opening in another window which was requesting payment. I will let you know how it pans out for me. Many thanks!

Hello and welcome LEKKAlexander,
RKILL is free and easy to download:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill
Also Malwarebytes with Chameleon and HitmanPro with ForceBreach both have similar functions that you can use to terminate malicious process....

If you need malware removal support... then you can get it for free in this forum: http://malwaretips.com/Forum-Help-my-PC-is-infected

When I hit the download the window comes up to run, I hit run and it appears the computer is going to start running the program but then nothing happens. I tried to save it but it doesn't even give me the option based on what this virus has done to my computer. What can I do now?

Please note that Smart HDD comes with Google redirects so it's best to use Bing search engine : http://www.bing.com/ : while removing this infection
What browser are you using?
What other browsers do you have installed?
Option 1 : Try to download a different named Rkill (direct download links bellow):
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/WiNlOgOn.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/uSeRiNiT.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
And then follow the guide : http://malwaretips.com/blogs/uninstall-smart-hdd/
Option 2: Try to download HitmanPro and then start this program in ForceBreach Mode
1.Here are the direct download links for HitmanPro,
- http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro36.exe (For 32bit)
- http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro36_x64.exe (For 64bit)
2.Hold down the left CTRL-key when you start HitmanPro and all non-essential processes are terminated, including the Smart HDD malicious process
Here is a video that explains with graphic details how to do this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=m6eRWTv2STk
3. If it start ,let it scan and remove all the detected threats , then follow the guide : http://malwaretips.com/blogs/uninstall-smart-hdd/
