The Darknet, also known as the Dark Net or the Dark Web, is a hidden part of the Internet which can only be accessed using special software, made up of around 400,000 hidden websites.
While the Darknet can be accessed by various means, most users use Tor, a sophisticated anonymization technology developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory in the mid-90s.
While writing our security articles on Softpedia, we mentioned the Darknet countless times in many of our articles. Unfortunately, most of the times, we make references to it because cyber-criminals have found a comfy home on it, using features initially created for protecting military and espionage personnel to hide their trail of illegal activities from authorities.
It is true that the Darknet is the place to find a lot of illegal products ranging from guns to drugs, and from child pornography to cyber-warfare tools, but there are many other Internet users who employ it to freely express political views, disclose government abuses, and exchange information in a safe and truly anonymous manner (journalists for example).
Accompanying Bat Blue's infographic seen below is the company's The Darknet report, which introduces users to the basic principles of the Dark Web, showing them how to correctly access it without losing their anonymity by exposing information they did not know could be leaked. If you're a security newbie, the report is a must-read.

Mr. Tech

Honestly malware professionals would probably be better off if they did go onto the 'Darknet' because I have (many times...) to download software that I deem suspicious or have got public attention and submitted it to antivirus vendors. Such as when the infamous underground website known as 'Tox' came about, it was a ransomware generator pretty much and what did I do? I went on to it - signed up (fake email, etc..) - and grabbed the piece of ransomeware it gives you access to and submitted it to 50+ international antivirus vendors.

Lots of fun on there, sure beats what's available via normal net, hands down. Also, when I crack the sh**s over every website nowadays being created in WordPress, I head for the darkness to calm down.

I am getting a feeling of deja-vu? Has this PDF been around for a while... could've sworn I've seen it a while ago...

Well I think you are better off staying up top.Although it is difficult and probably impossible to control, law enforcement (local & governmental) are there everyday 24/7.One might like to think they have true anonymity on the dark side but is there really such a thing? There is more bad there than good and trust me you do not want to get on the radar for strolling into the wrong neighborhood.
The worst of the worst reside there as well as some very "sick" individuals and I am not talking about your run of the mill mental health individuals. The perverse in all flavors, satanic cults/human trafficking/snuff films(think about where a good majority of the missing on milk cartons end up) and an estimated 35 or more serial killers trolling the dark side. That doesn't even include terrorists, organized crime and other criminal activities. On top of all that you are probably rubbing elbows with almost every government in the world.
I will pass on going there for fun or for annonymity.

From the name itself, none of them brought beneficial but full of risks which better intended to check with full awareness.

Its like don't go on unusual place especially if its too dark and little amount of chance to encounter people walk in by huge numbers.

You may explore for your education purpose but avoid any transactions.
